Data Capture Lesson Ideas

Task

1. Use the theory notes in the website available in the student zone to find out about how to create an effective data capture form.

2. Once you feel confident that you understand the different techniques that can be used, design a data capture form on paper for one of the following:

• A new patient at a doctor's surgery
• A customer who wants to receive information about the latest computer games being released
• Someone who wants to book a ticket for a fashion show
• A football fan who wants to join their team's fan club.

Think about the questions that would be relevant to the scenario you have chosen.

3. Once you are happy with your hand drawn draft version, create your form using the computer.

4. Print out one copy and fill it in by hand. Check that the boxes you made are the right size for someone with large handwriting. Check that the font can easily be read.

5. Make any adjustments necessary, then print out four copies and get friends to fill them in.

6. Ask your friends for feedback about how easy your form was to complete.
