Design a theme park ride

This could be used as part of a cover lesson or given as homework.

Students investigate theme park rides and then design their own. The key to this exercise is for them to consider where the sensors might be on the ride and what type of sensors would be suitable.

Car Park Barrier Task

This booklet is provides a full project which can be used to introduce students to setting up a basic control system to control a car park barrier and a set of traffic lights

Cover lesson for unit 7.6

Jon Bridgeman of Finham Park School has kindly contributed a cover lesson for this unit.

Each lesson comes with a pupil worksheet and a guidance sheet for the teacher. The guidance sheet is designed to be used by the cover teacher and will explain how the students should approach the tasks. It also gives guidance on internet usage and SEN.

Please note that there may be references on the sheets to Jon's school network directory structure so you wil have to change these to suit your particular network and file system

Teach-ict website about robots

If you would like to incorporate a lesson about robots then you can direct students to this mini-website.

They can find out the basics about robots for themselves and once they are ready they can undertake some further investigation prior to writing a short report about everything they have learned.

Flowchart PPT

This traffic lights simulation can be used as part of unit 7.6 when teaching computer control.

It makes use of the Rand function in Excel in order to demonstrate a set of traffic lights changing randomly.

Robot constructor - Channel 4 learning

Your mission is to construct robots which can successfully collect the precious golden cubes scattered about a variety of hostile zones. Robots must be able to navigate their way around each zone to collect the gold cubes while at the same time avoiding hazards and making sure they've enough energy by periodically recharging or refuelling.

Not really sure how you would tie this in with the KS3 strategy, but it might provide a few moments of light relief!
