This is a great idea to get students to focus on key vocabulary and it also helps support literacy. These starters use words from the recommended keywords for this unit.

Display the word on an Interactive whiteboard and set students a certain amount of time to make as many different words of two or more letters from the given word.

The second page provides a list of most of the possible derivatives. Students could mark one another's papers.

You could run an ongoing competition to see who gets the highest scores - boys against girls or different houses.
