Did you know that every day, researchers in America gather and analyse data about people’s tastes, preferences and relationships from Facebook?

Did you know that Oxford University monitors Facebook to gain evidence about pranks and poor behaviour by their students?

Did you know that before many employers interview people for a job, they often search social networking sites to find out what the candidate is really like?

Most of you will have your own page on a social networking site such as Bebo, MySpace or Facebook.  These sites are a great way to make new friends and keep in contact with old friends.  And most of the things that you post are harmless and won’t cause you any problems.

Anyway, you can just delete your information if you change your mind later can’t you?  Well maybe it isn’t that easy as student Kris Athi found out when he tried unsuccessfully over 50 times to get details removed from his page.

I no it can be dangerous but at the end of the day if your stupid enough too put privite things on bebo its your own fault if it turns around && bites you in the back. Hey Dudes! There's nothing wrong with having your own page but i would keep it private, it's your choice at the end of the day, if i was you i wouldn't post private info up on your page coz you have no idea who is looking at your page right now, just be carefull guys!x

Bebo and myspace is good but as long as you don't put too much information about you and don't put pictures that show too much then it will be alright. And you can always set your profile private so only your friends can see your profile. And its a good way to get in contact with old friends.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Bebo, myspace, hi5 etc.. I mean after all each user makes an account and gives their information out of their own free will. Setting your profile views to "private" or something like that would be a good idea, so you'll only have your friends view your page and not some random 40 year old pervert!! I have a hi5 account nd i think its a great way of communicating with old friends etc etc.. insomma thats my point of view__.x

I think that people should all be allowed their own opinion, at first I wasn't so keen on Myspace and Bebo. Now I have them both. To be honest it was just a novelty thing really because now I don't use either. Although I do have a friend who emigrated to Austrailia, and I find Bebo the easiest way to communicate. Msn is difficult as we have to continually leave offline messages which gets boring as you don't know what you've said previously. Bebo is fun, and you can give your best friends love, etc. Myspace and Bebo accounts can be deleted, and set to private, so strangers cannot just view your profile randomly. I appreciate that some people don't like the idea of internet sites such as Bebo, Myspace and Facebook, but to be honest it is the choice of the individual, and no-one, unfortunately, can change that =] x

It is of course the users decision as to what they put on though it is a good idea to be careful with what you post, you can set your profile to private so if you dont wish for other people to see things and want to be free to post whatever you want then thats what you should do. However it is unfair of companies and schools to check up on peoples pages to find out information on them. Those who are against these sites are generally older people who think that because they didnt have them when they were younger that the younger generation shouldnt use them, this is going against progress and is rather idiotic in its own way, most of them have never used a site such as myspace and are against it for no apparent reason other than that they have never used it and dont want others to, perhaps if they used this kind of site themselves then they wouldnt be as dead set against.

hi to be fair this commenting system is very simular to that currently being used by the social networking systems u dont approve of. so therefore i question what right u have to complain. in all fairness there are few people out there that are trying to use these networks to hurt others many are actual people just talking. there are privacy settings employeed within the systems in order to provide a safe environment for people to talk. ur commenting system is in fact worse as the comments posted are available to be seen by all not those u choose to allow to see. so basically i think you should stop complaining about bebo, myspace, facebook and any others out there and grow up.

at the end of the day if the information YOU put on one of these social networking sites is going to embarrass you then dont put it up there its not as hard as people make out to delete information however i do not agree with people who use the sites to bully and inscriminate others but as many users will know they have links you can click on to get that persons account cancelled and thats my view

Bebo and Myspace are cool and if yuu dont want people to read things then dont put them on. www stands for world wide web so anyone can read them. These are your own pages on the web so people can find out more about yuu. If yuu dont want people to read stuff then dont put it on there. :)

I think that social networking is a good way to keep in touch with your friends and make new friends, i dont think stalkers and pedophiles are a problem as long as you only accept people that you know and keep your profile privet so only your accepted friends can see your profile. Many people have webcams which is a sure way to see if the person your talking to is who they say they are. Its a bad idea to give out personal information on a website which anybody can read , most people realise this and dont. I really agree with age bans young people could be tricked quite easily.

i think social networking is a great idea for it developes well peoples relationships with one anouther and allows us to communicate to friends at long distence it also allows us to meet new people in a safe enviroment. But of course a high level of sercurity is needed to ensure the safty of its users.

i think that posting things on bebo for example is fairly appropriate as sites like these made to purposely give out information on yourself and to talk to new people and obviously your friends. but when i post things i always make sure i dont give out exact details like where i live because thast oul be stupid and you mite as well post little things about yourself becasue somemone can find information on you some way or another, basically i tink you shouldnt post exact details about yourself but it wont do any harm if you post little things about yourself

Well, if you post something on the internet it's hardly private is it? People should learn that ANYONE with a computer can find webpages with your username/name on it. So if you want to keep something private, don't post it up in the first place.

well i have not got bebo but i know alote about it. I thought it was good at first and i think its a great way 2 comunicate 2 friends and other people. but i have heard stories about what people have done because of bebo which arn't approriate for this page. people can get in seriouse danger because of bebo n other sites like it. so im giving some free addvice, think about what you put on your site like pictures of yourself which arn't appropriate i.e. not much clothing, coments that some people might find affensive and might judge u after they have read them and just remember if u hav'nt got a private site ANYONE can see your pictures and ANYONE can read your coments. cum-on you've heard about pedo's and all that type of people out there and you dont know who's behind those coments so trust me just think what you've put on your site. My Opinion is that although these sites are a a great way to keep in touch with friends they can be dangerous. If i could edit my bebo profile this minute i would check that only my direct friends can see it. I.e make it private. Some people put pictures of themselves up which to be honest aren't really appropiate for their ages; hardly any clothing. I would also wouldn't accept people i don't know. which is a bit stupid considering random people add you for a total random reason. I'm always warned by my 'rents to be safe online and all that but until now i've never realised the whole dangers of social networking sites. And how could people kill themselves just to get attention? its barbaric ! although i have made a few against points. i think they are a good idea, just be safe.

I used to have a bebo, but when i watched this panorama thing i realized how dangerous social sitges can be. And when i had a look at my bebo page i also realized how many people who I'd accepted as friends and I didn't know. Anyone of those people could have been an online predator. So if you think its cool and smart to make friends you don't know in real life and I even know 2 people who are going out with people on the internet and haven't met them, you may wanna re-think it, because it is honestly one o THE stupidest things you could ever do.

Bebo is downright bad. The story about those children commiting suicide was because of bebo. Those children are going to grow up and live because someone decided to brainwash them using sites such as bebo and facebook. I think that these online profiles are outragous, if you have got real friends you dont need to have a profile that others can see and talk to you on because children these days are really lazy and need to get out and see their real friends because you never know who you could be talking to online.
